It has been my privilege to work with Georgetown University Law Center and the American Hotel & Lodging Association to plan The 2012 Hotel & Lodging Legal Summit, a two-day continuing legal education conference to be held November 8 and 9, 2012 in Washington, D.C. The metropolitan area surrounding the nation’s capital has become home to more hotel and lodging companies than any other metropolitan area in the United States. Many of these companies employ in-house attorneys. Meanwhile, many attorneys in private practice who serve this industry worldwide work in this area or in national law firms with offices in this area. Over a year ago, I approached Georgetown Law with the idea of hosting a conference in Washington for the benefit of attorneys serving this industry. I am grateful to have received the support of Larry Center, Georgetown’s Assistant Dean for Continuing Legal Education and, soon afterward, Weili Cheng, the Deputy General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC. The three of us recruited an Advisory Board of over 30 prominent attorneys and other professionals who counsel the hotel and lodging industry in companies and law firms throughout the United States and Canada. This Advisory Board has helped us plan a conference at which over 50 lawyers and other professionals will participate in panel discussions of current legal issues confronting the industry. In all, over 70 professionals are helping make this conference a success. If you are a lawyer who works with the hotel and lodging industry, either as in-house or outside counsel, I encourage you to attend this conference. If you know such attorneys, I encourage you to inform them of the conference.
